RUGS – Cleaning vs Washing
There is a difference between ‘cleaning’ and ‘washing’ rugs. Oriental and Persian rugs can be a huge investment and need to be cared for accordingly. Harmful grit can accumulate deep down, cutting away at the fibres, eventually wearing rugs out. The only way to effectively remove the deep-down soil is to have the rugs cared for off-site with the appropriate equipment. Cleaning rugs in-situ means that the damaging soil will still be at the base of the fibres during the cleaning process. The soil will turn to mud when wet, extending drying times, risking colour bleed, and in the long-run causing dry rot in the cotton foundation. Rugs cleaned in the home will not be rinsed properly, leaving re-soiling sticky residues in the fibres. Cotton fringes need to be dried quickly to prevent browning, again, not possible in-situ.
Our cleaning system is designed to remove all the damaging particles before a thorough wash process is undertaken. Rugs are pre-tested to ensure there is no colour-run during the cleaning process. Rugs are cleaned with a mild shampoo and immersed in cold softened water. Once rugs have been thoroughly rinsed they are dried quickly with the aid of air movers and dehumidifiers. A final inspection is carried out before the rugs are wrapped securely and delivered back to your home. We will un-wrap the rugs for you when they are returned.
